JACQUELINE DE MONTAIGNE
THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS
The Language of Flowers is a celebration of an age old practice of using flowers as a form of cryptology, in this case the theme chosen linked to the flowers was love. The Language of Flowers is the title of a solo show and a 14m high mural created by Jacqueline de Montaigne, in the centre of Lisbon in largo Hintze Ribeiro, just up from parliament. The project was managed and curated by Gonaçalo Magalhães of Because Art Matters, an art collective that Jacqueline has now officially joined.
The mural is created with classical gilding techniques and round the figure are 10 flowers, all of which were used to send messages of love in times where such messages were forbidden to be spoken out loud. The solo show is a further elaboration of the 10 flowers chosen in the mural.
